Designing a comprehensive testing system
Redesigning an existing system is the ultimate puzzle. The existing Test Development system was a complex system. Even more complex, was its interactions and poor architecture. I was in constant touch with the users to understand their behavior and mental model. We built a robust online test builder to build, copy and share an online item bank of activities that can include audio, video, text and/or images. Exam Sponsors /SMEs can control nearly every aspect of test delivery -- randomization of items, shuffling of options, amount of think time, amount of response time, etc. A system was built that offers a wide variety of question types that can be applied to almost any assessment, certification, or learning situation.

When we set out to redesign P system software, we had to rethink more than just the interface; we wanted to create a connected ecosystem of products and services that spanned desktop and devices. That was ambitious, so we chose four areas on which to focus first:
1) Reconstruct the information architecture with,
2) a visual refresh that,
3) felt natural and easy to use by any user, and
4) fully leveraged cloud services.

Our Solution
We live in a digital world of extreme convenience. One of the main challenges faced by the users was that the test couldn't be scheduled on the specific dates the candidate needs(depending on the exam they are enrolling for). To address this issue, we designed the system where the candidate can write the test anytime, anywhere. Thanks to the sophisticated algorithms for cheat detection built by our Happiest Minds engineers, the test system is completely fool proof and is trusted by some reputed institutions.
A complex flow deduced into a simple screen. Leveraging P’s existing capabilities and building new features on top of it was a challenge. P’s existing proctor console was very limited and most of the actions were performed offline, like checking-in the candidate, invigilating and payment, printing the documents needed by the candidate, etc .
Apart from this, Localization is one more way we designed that our system provides a personalized testing experience tailored to the needs of test takers. This means that the buttons, system check, tab labels and timer message text will all appear in the selected language.
Result
We implemented the all new design which was in complaint with NCCER regulations and was very much liked by new users as well as the existing users increasing the adoption rate by 32%
